Leishman Point > WRA Hires Clarkson Consulting Group

The Surplus Lands Working Group decided in December to hire Clarkson University Consulting Group to perform an economic impact study on various development scenarios for Leishman Point.   The ideas being studied include a residential development, condominiums, a hotel/conference center (with indoor swimming pool and fitness facilities for local residents as well as visitors), an RV park/resort, an upscale retirement community, and a marina (which is already in Waddington’s LWRP).

The Clarkson Consulting Group has been gathering data from various sources, including Town of Waddington officials, to help them in their economic impact study.  It should be stressed that Clarkson was hired to look only at the numbers.   Personal issues, which some people have tried to draw into the analysis, are not a part of the study.  The data has been gathered with input from various stakeholders and general agreement will be sought so as to not skew the results.  Clarkson will present their findings at the end of April.  This type of analysis on Leishman  has never been performed before and should help everyone make more informed development decisions.

It is up to Waddington citizens to develop a plan that allows for responsible growth without destroying the charm of Waddington.  WRA believes this is very doable.   Examples of communities that Waddington could emulate are Sackets Harbor, NY and Merrickville, Ontario, Canada.    Both towns have catered to tourists, yet have remained very quaint, friendly and livable communities.
