Leishman Point > Property Tax Information

a.      Town Tax Comparison

While it is true that Waddington has 72.5% of its land off the tax roles, it does not automatically translate into higher taxes for its citizens.  A comparison of Waddington to other towns in St. Lawrence County reveals that Waddington homeowners pay less tax than most other towns in the county.  The amount of tax paid in the village is also low compared to the rest of the county.  Also, research of property taxes paid in a town called Canadice, population 1846, which has only 3% of its land exempt from property tax (9th lowest in NY State) shows that taxpayers actually pay more property tax than homeowners with equivalent valued property in Waddington.

b.      County Tax

Because of equalization, all St. Lawrence County property taxpayers pay essentially the same rate.

c.      M-W School Tax

It is true that Madrid-Waddington School taxes are 5th highest in the county, however, this is likely  attributed to the high level of services provided and the decrease in state aid resulting from a decrease in enrollment which will only get worse if the current trend does not reverse.
