Letter to the Editor: No On Resolution
Waddington residents are being asked to vote in a special election Oct. 14. The wording of
the resolution is apparently designed to confuse the voters, not give them a clear choice.
I am a teacher. I presented the resolution to a ninth grade History class and asked them
how they would vote. Without exception they said, basically, "We don't know what it
says." I then took it to the head of the English Department who said, "Egad! Who
wrote this?"
The resolution reads, "Shall the resolution passed by the Town Officials of the Town
of Waddington to sell for residential purposes that portion of the Leishman Point lands
not reserved for public use be approved? Yes Or No.
If you remove all the prepositional phrases it would read: Shall the resolution passed be
approved? Yes Or No. The original resolution stated that the land would be developed
residentially. Clark Point is still not fully developed and it has done nothing to our tax
base or defraying the cost of water and sewer.
Land on Clark Point has been for sale for years and is less than 50% sold. Do we really
need another residential development that will remain unsold? Vote no Oct. 14.
