Commentary: Hotel Project A Good One
I was pleased to see that the Village of Waddington has agreed to work with the Clark House Preservation group, an off shoot of the Waddington Redevelopment Association, to try to save the St. Lawrence Hotel. The effort can't be anything but positive for Waddington.
For too long, our communities have sat back, ripping down historic buildings instead of trying to find innovative ways to preserve them. Ogdensburg's downtown is a prime example, we must all share in the blame. Communities like Potsdam have shown that preserving historic downtown buildings pays off big.
James Thew, who is chairing the Waddington effort, deserves the area's thanks for leading the effort. I hope that he receives the support he will need for a difficult but important task. It's time to get those creative juices stirred up.
